Since 1986, Camp Carefree in Stokesdale, NC, has provided a FREE, one-week camping experience for kids ages 6 to 16 with chronic illnesses and disabilities, including cancer, Spina Bifida, epilepsy, and more. Their program also includes camps for healthy siblings of ill children and a week for children with a sick parent.
Each year, Northwest Guilford Kiwanis helps Camp Carefree by participating in their spring cleanup. We “adopt” the Milton House to clean and ready for the summer season. We also host a cookout for all campers and volunteers during “Spina Bifida Week” in memory of our charter member’s daughter.

Conner Cares is a non-profit organization established by Northwest Guilford Kiwanis member Casey in memory of her son, Conner. C3 wants to empower childhood cancer patients to take control of their life during cancer treatment. By providing tablets and headphones to patients, C3 allows them the opportunity to choose when they need to tune out cancer and tune in to being just a kid.
Community leaders recognized that a battered woman and her children need a place of healing and security. They envisioned a place where victims of domestic violence could go for food, shelter, guidance, and safety. This is how Next Step Ministries was born. Next Step Ministries is a 501c3 non-profit organization with the goal of assisting individuals and families impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault.
